SUMMARY:

Performs all duties of a Transporter I, II, & courier.  Select employees may also function as a Dispatcher. 

 

Transporter I and II: Transports patients to their in-patient bed and/or to and from other areas such as surgery, therapy, or radiology in a safe and timely manner.  Retrieves medical records, lab results, supplies and medications as required.  Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.  Maintains and cleans equipment.  May assist with parking and retrieving patients’ vehicles. Provides daily work guidance and on-the-job training for employees.

 

Courier:  Collects and transports a variety of medical specimens, documents, and packages on and off the TMCH campus.  Handles incoming and outgoing US mail. 

 

Dispatcher: Coordinates service needs and resource availability to ensure timely delivery of equipment, supplies or services to guests with non-medical food service, maintenance, environment, or other hospitality needs.  Responsible for Transporter I, II, & Courier duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Transporter I & II:

  • Assigns daily work tasks to staff, observes performance to provide input to formal evaluations, and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Provides feedback to management.
  • Participates in the staff selection process; provides training and orientation for employees.
  • Assists clinical personnel in transferring patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
  • Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed.
  • Collects specimens, cultures, non-narcotic medications, orders, and requisitions and delivers items to appropriate destinations.
  • Completes assignment log and obtain authorized signatures for each assignment.
  • Drives patient vehicles as a valet service; meets patients at hospital entrances and assists with getting them into the hospital.

 

Courier:

  • Completes assignment log and obtains authorized signatures for each assignment.  Records time of departure, destination, cargo and expected time of return.
  • Sorts and processes incoming and outgoing mail. Collects and delivers mail, enters departmental correspondence, supplies, and other items as directed.
  • Collects, weighs, and affixes proper postage to outgoing mail/parcels sent to domestic and international destinations.
  • Interprets and implements all US Postal Services rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Operates industrial computer-based mail machinery.
  • Balances figures, computes totals, and performs basic mathematical calculations.
  • Develops and maintains necessary records and files for efficient operation.
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning files or other documents and materials handled.

·         Maintains petty cash fund and submit appropriate documentation.

  • Operates a personal computer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine or related office machinery in performing assigned duties.
  • Collects specimens as directed and takes them to laboratory for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment handling specimens.

·         Operates a motor vehicle and ensures compliance with applicable motor vehicle laws.

  • Transports and delivers material and supporting documentation to the hospital.

 

Dispatcher:

  • Coordinators services needs and resource availability for timely delivery of equipment, supplies, or services to guests.
  • Assists the floor as a Transporter I, II, or Courier when needed.
  • Performs stretcher van duties when needed.

 

Responsible for providing training to new employees.

Operates company vehicles as a courier to transport items, specimens, supplies, and medications between patient homes and hospitals.

Operates company vehicles as a stretcher van transporter, facilitating the safe and efficient transport of patients from hospitals to TMCH hospice, testing sites, skilled nursing facilities (SNF), and patients' residences.

Performs related duties as assigned.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

EXPERIENCE:  Six (6) months of TMCH transportation experience, with no active disciplinary action(s) OR two (2) years of transportation experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) certification. Valid AZ driver’s license preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

·         Knowledge of safety practices used in the transporting of personnel or merchandise.

·         Skill in assigning work and guiding others.

·         Skill in driving vehicles and larger size vans in a safe manner.

·         Ability to read or listen and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

·         Ability to write simple correspondence.

·         Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

·         Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.

·         Ability to read a clock and accurately document time. 

·         Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

·         Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
