We are looking for 3 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP's) to cover our Level I Newborn Nursery at TMC Rincon. In Arizona, NP's and practice independently; however, they will receive support from neonatologists or pediatricians. The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Examining and managing the care of newborns, facilitating the transition to the primary care provider (PCP), and potentially making a follow-up hone call to parents 24 hours after discharge as a bridge to the PCP appointment if necessary. 

  • Attending all high-risk deliveries and stabilizing sick infants for transport to TMC's larger facility where there is a Level III+ NICU

  • Being available for clinical questions from labor, delivery, recovery and post partum (LDRP) staff throughout the day. 

The current on-call schedule consists of 3 days of 24-hour home/pager call, during which the responsible NNP will complete all management of newborns in the nursery for that day. This will be followed by 10 days off, during which the other two NNP's will cover the call. This is schedule is adjustable to accommodate vacations, sick leave, etc. During the "10 days off", shifts at TMC's larger facility on Grant will be offered to help maintain clinical skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Nursing or related area, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. 

EXPERIENCE:  Five (5) years of related experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:  National certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or must be National Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner eligible, must become credentialed at TMC through the Professional Staffing Office prior to appointment.  Must have and maintain a current Arizona state license as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner including prescriptive authority.  Must obtain and maintain a current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency License for prescribing controlled substances.  Additional certifications may be required based on delineation of privileges as outlined by Medical Staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·         Knowledge of nursing care and assessment best practices.

·         Knowledge of regulations and policies as it relates to patient evaluation, care and information.

·         Skill in evaluating comprehensive health assessments and evaluating results to ensure the most appropriate treatment option.

·         Skill in providing the best practice patient care.

·         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

·         Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure protocols.

·         Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.

·         Ability to work with concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, and to apply mathematical operations to solve or analyze job-related situations.

·         Ability to identify positive or negative variances from expected outcomes.

·         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

·         Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
