The System Architect (SA) strategically plans, evaluates, designs, and implements advanced information systems, applications and networked architectures to support TMC and the Information Services department. The SA will work at the most advanced technical level to understand and plan current and future technology architecture to meet the on-going needs of the organization. The SA will work with others to evaluate and select appropriate technology required to implement plans. He or she will provide technical leadership through strong collaboration and communication skills and will facilitate strategic decision making. The SA will participate as part of a technical and/or project team to ensure projects are implemented according to architectural, technical, organizational and budgetary plans. The SA will work with IS management and organizational leaders to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of TMC IS.
The Systems Architect may work in one or more of these technical areas: applications, servers, storage, network, or other infrastructure. Specific job duties are defined by the IS Manager.
Strategy & Planning
Design and implement long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining TMC systems and software.
Ensure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with TMC IS goals and objectives.
Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, and other IS team members.
Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts, and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.
Acquisition & Deployment
Design, develop, and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated systems.
Document TMC’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
Includes all duties of Senior Systems Engineer or Senior Application Developer, as appropriate.
Mentor and coach other technical team members.
Participate in the development of estimates and plans for capital and operational projects.
Attend meetings with vendors or internal stakeholders.
Performs related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Ten (10) years of application and/or infrastructure engineering experience with evidence of job progression.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Technical certifications specific to technology supported, if applicable. Microsoft, VMWare, Citrix, Cisco or other technical certifications may be required for specific roles.
