SUMMARY:

Pharmacy Technician supervisor oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations in clinical pharmacy.  Oversees the provision of safe, effective, and efficient technical aspects of pharmacy services including but not limited to: medication procurement, storage, security, preparation and distribution. Responsible for the scheduling, disciplinary action, competency, evaluations and training of pharmacy technicians.  Oversees timekeeping and productivity standard for pharmacy technicians.  Participates and coordinates the recruitment, selection, and hiring of pharmacy technicians. Provides oversight and development of departmental quality initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Effectively supervises staff: interviews, and trains; provides continuous feedback and evaluates employee performance; appropriately handles performance issues; delegates work assignments for the greatest amount of efficiency and productivity.

Oversees and audits Pharmacy Technician responsibilities/processes.

Supports quality improvement initiatives through team participation, data collection, process change implementations, and other activities.

Develops and maintains pertinent department policies and procedures.

Ensures monthly unit inspections are completed and up-to-date .

Complies with Federal and State statutes, rules and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.  Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and current licensure of employees, and facilitates continuing education and development of employees.

Assists Pharmacists in preparing compounds, labels, and packages medications and pharmaceuticals, in accordance with established professional protocols and standards.

Monitors and controls expenses within approved budget allocations.

Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all patients, visitors and staff.

Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times, including patient information, proprietary information and personnel information.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Technical College Certificate as Pharmacy Technician; Associates Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of pharmacy technician or pharmacy related experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:   Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of pharmacy solutions and the steps needed to ask for approval, train, and implement these systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of required staff competencies, departmental staffing requirements, and how to evaluate, train and guide staff.
  • Skill in interviewing techniques and evaluating the best possible candidates for vacancies.
  • Skill in prioritizing activities and effectively communicating with subordinates.
  • Skill in evaluating operations and making recommendations for efficiencies.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
