SUMMARY:

The IS Intern will support day-to-day technology operations while gaining hands-on experience in a professional IT environment. This short-term internship is designed to expose students or early-career candidates to core IS functions including technical support, infrastructure, systems administration, and customer service. The intern will work closely with IS staff on assigned tasks and projects while developing foundational technical and workplace skills.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist IS staff with daily operational tasks and technical support requests
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for hardware, software, and peripheral issues
  • Support workstation setup, imaging, deployment, and inventory tracking
  • Assist with documentation of processes, procedures, and system configurations
  • Support routine maintenance activities (patching, updates, cable management, etc.)
  • Participate in small projects or initiatives as assigned
  • Follow IS security, privacy, and acceptable-use policies always.
  • Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
  • Performs related duties assigned.

Learning Objectives

During the 5-week internship, the intern will:

  • Gain exposure to enterprise IT environments and service management practices
  • Learn basic troubleshooting techniques and customer support skills
  • Understand IT infrastructure components (endpoints, networks, applications)
  • Develop professional communication and teamwork skills
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a program in information technology, computer science, or a related field.  
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and common applications
  • Strong willingness to learn and take direction
  • Good communication and organizational skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems

  • Basic knowledge of networking, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365

  • Previous coursework or lab experience in IT or technology support

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • None required.
  • Previous coursework or lab experience in IT or technology support preferred.

 

Work Schedule & Location

  • Temporary internship lasting 5 consecutive weeks
  • Schedule and hours to be determined based on departmental needs
  • On-site presence may be required

 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:

  • None required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

·         Knowledge of administrative support task management functions.

·         Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and common applications.

·         Skill in organizing tasks and paying attention to detail.

·         Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.

·         Ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

·         Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

·         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

·         Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
