SUMMARY:

Organizes and directs hospital-wide patient care activities during assigned shift in Patient Services Department, usually during evenings and weekends.  Represents the hospital administration in assuming delegated shift responsibilities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepares work schedules, assign staff, observe performance to provide input to formal evaluations, and make recommendations for personnel actions; assists in staff selection and provide training and orientation for new employees.

Monitors and controls expenses according to approved budget allocations; provides input for budget preparation and keeps management apprised of budget variances and unexpected expenses.

Implements and maintains established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as quality assurance, environmental and infection control policies.

Inspects area each shift for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur.

Investigates complaints of patients, nursing staff, and medical staff and takes appropriate action; follows up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled.

Uses independent judgment about contacting Administrator On Call when appropriate for resolution of serious or immediate problems.

Provides available nursing personnel to departments, requesting supplemental staff as needed in response to varying census conditions.

Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION:  Associate's degree in nursing required.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of nursing experience, preferably in a lead or supervisory role.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

·         Knowledge of the best nursing practice, procedures and principles.

·         Knowledge of patient care procedures and policies.

·         Skill in evaluating patients and determining care required.

·         Skill in supervising, evaluating and training staff to ensure maximum effectiveness.

·         Ability to schedule work assignment to promote maximum efficiency.

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.

·         Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

·         Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

·         Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to apply basic algebraic concepts.
