Respiratory Therapist Per Diem
Assesses, evaluates, and treats patients with various disorders of the cardiopulmonary system. Administers oxygen and other non-anesthetic gases to patients by various methods, including intermittent positive pressure; administers aerosol medications; may conduct pulmonary function tests, may do arterial punctures and conduct blood gas determinations. Instructs patient in proper use of equipment and maintenance. Maintains mechanical ventilators in non-critical care areas. Keeps records of treatments and patient charges.
Responds to all Codes/resuscitation needs.
Provides assisted ventilation and advanced life support monitoring for non ICU and transported patients.
Administers and monitors patients, as prescribed by a physician; follow Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the Respiratory Care Policy and Procedure manual.
Evaluates the application of procedures and may recommend therapeutic modifications to the ordering physician.
Routinely applies patient driven protocols.
Cleans, inspects, and tests inhalation therapy equipment to ensure proper operating condition.
Administers prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosolized drugs. Monitors concentration of O2 and other medical gases delivered or in controlled environment where patient is breathing.
Performs, analyzes and interprets arterial blood gas studies as well as non-invasive measurements of Pulse Oximetry, alveolar gases, and transcutaneous gas measurements.
Documents proper records of tests and treatments administered and charging procedures. Routinely charts real time in Clinivision.
Administers skin test antigens and measures responses.
Participates in clinical and technical demonstrations and instruction.
Works overtime as required for business operations, including shift assignment(s) an On-Call or Called Back coverage as required.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Associate’s degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: None required.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of best practices to assess, evaluate, and treat patients with various disorders of the cardiopulmonary system.
Skill in conducting pulmonary function tests and then delivering the proper treatment as advised.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and apply basic algebraic concepts.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
