SUMMARY:

P articipates in TMC Residency Program (specialty may vary, including but not limited to Transitional, Podiatry, Pediatrics and/or Pharmacy), performing assigned educational activities, including direct patient care, conferences, rotations, advisor meetings, surgery and other clinical or educational services, as appropriate to the residency program. Participants in Pharmacy Residency Program will spend 48 weeks in rotations that may include Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Critical Care, Ambulatory Care, Adult Surgery, Hospice, Pain Management, Administration, and Nutrition Support.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Subscribes to and upholds established standards of behavior.

 

Works collaboratively and supports efforts of other team members.

 

Supports quality improvement initiatives through team participation, data collection, process change implementations, and other activities.

 

Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times, including patient information, proprietary information and personnel information.

 

Adheres to organizational and department-specific safety standards and guidelines.

 

Physician Residents

Provides responsible, safe, efficient, and compassionate physician practice activities and progressive acquisition of clinical skills.

 

Provides patient care under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, as assigned by the Director of Residency Program.

 

Treats patients, staff and healthcare practitioners involved in care with respect, dignity and compassion.

 

Perform procedures and patient care activities under direct or indirect supervision of the licensed independent practitioners.

 

Follows the content, procedures and protocols set forth by the Residency Program leadership. Exhibits timely attendance and deadline management.

 

Effectively functions as a member of various teams during all patient care and educational activities assigned.

Uses good judgment and seeks supervision when ordering tests and treatment for patients. Exhibits good behaviors and attitudes that resonate with TMC values of integrity, diversity, accountability, compassion, and teamwork.

 

Pharmacy Residents

Demonstrates familiarity with all brand and generic medications and their appropriate dosages based on patient parameters and concomitant therapies.

 

Demonstrates understanding of disease states as well as classes of medications within therapeutic categories so that alternate therapies can be recommended based on a patient's condition.

 

Interprets all written and electronic physician medication orders regarding form, dose, route, frequency, indications, timing, and duration.

 

Monitors patients as appropriate including medications, labs, flowsheets, history, tests, diseases, etc. 

 

Communicates medication information and related issues to health professionals and the public both verbally and in writing. 

 

Is familiar with pharmaceutical references and information they contain; demonstrates comprehension of medical and scientific studies and their conclusions.

 

Demonstrates knowledge of compounding techniques and solubility and incompatibilities of extemporaneous compounding and the math involved. 

 

Provides medication and medication information during emergency situations/codes in the hospital.

 

Demonstrates familiarity with hospital investigational drug protocols and associated documentation necessary to measure patient outcomes of such therapy.

 

Oversees work of Pharmacy Technicians/Interns/Students participating in the preparation, dispensing, and documentation of medications.

 

Directs personnel and workload to accomplish pharmaceutical care.

 

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Residents are expected to complete evaluations for each rotation for which they participate.

EDUCATION: 

For Podiatry Residents: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a CPME-accredited College of Podiatric Medicine. 

For Transitional Residents: Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a LCME-accredited college of Allopathic Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from a COCA-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

For Pharmacy Residents: Pharmacy degree from an AACP-accredited College of Pharmacy, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

For Pediatric Residents: Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a LCME-accredited college of Allopathic Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from a COCA-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

For Internal Medicine Residents: Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a LCME-accredited college of Allopathic Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from a COCA-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

 

EXPERIENCE:  None required.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION 

For Podiatry Residents: An enrolled member of a Residency Program. BLS or ACLS certification ( must obtain BLS or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire).

For Transitional Residents: Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in Arizona.  An enrolled member of Residency Program. BLS or ACLS certification ( must obtain BLS or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire). Must have a Postgraduate Training Permit Number through the Arizona Medical Board  

For Pharmacy Residents: Current Pharmacist licensure or eligibility for licensure in Arizona, An enrolled member of Residency Program. BLS or ACLS certification ( must obtain BLS or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire).

For Pediatric Residents: Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in Arizona. An enrolled member of Residency Program. BLS, PALS & NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (must obtain BLS, PALS & NRP certification within 30 days of hire).

 

For Pediatric Residents: Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in Arizona.  An enrolled member of Residency Program. BLS or ACLS certification (must obtain BLS or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire). Must have a Postgraduate Training Permit Number through the Arizona Medical Board  

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

·         Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journal, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

·         Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

·         Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives and the general public.

·         Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents or logarithms.

·         Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, single or multiple regressions, determination of test reliability and validity, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

·         Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).

·         Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
