SUMMARY:
Provides professional leadership, advanced knowledge and support in the practice of lactation management to new mothers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reviews and assesses risk, and provides consultation with patients who require assistance.

Assists with follow-up phone calls to assess the status of discharged patients.

Develops, evaluates, and assists in the revisions of educational programs and resources for the mother baby unit, NICU, and new Lactation counselors in training.

Represents TMC in community resource events and offerings.

Ensures the safety and well-being of assigned patients

Utilizes and monitors aseptic technique and infection control precautions

Documents pertinent information regarding patient care appropriately

Participates in professional development by attending related professional affiliations for lactation certification

Communicates in a professional manner with patients, with staff, and with other collaterals

Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times, including patient information, proprietary information and personnel information.

Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Associates or Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE:  Two (2) years of related mother baby nursing experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current Registered Nurse with ability to work in Arizona, and Lactation Counselor (IBCLC) certification (can be in progress). Current CPR/BLS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of direct patient care and critical care procedures and techniques, tools, and responses required to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Skill in communicating in a clear and concise manner with staff involved in critical care, and physicians to ensure the proper care of patients.

  • Skill demonstrated in assigned disciplines such as EP, directly involved in patient care.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
