The Adult Critical Care Unit at Tucson Medical Center was recognized with a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The Beacon Award for Excellence — a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments — recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three-year, three-level award with gold, silver or bronze designations meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.
The gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence signifies excellent and sustained unit performance and patient outcomes. TMC’s Adult Critical Care Unit earned a gold award by meeting the following evidence-based Beacon Award for Excellence criteria:

ACCU has 12 beds. The focus of the 480 unit is Cardiac Intensive Critical Care. We generally have 2-4 open hearts six days per week (CABG, AVR, MVR, TVR, TAVR). Our patient population consists of open hearts, TAVR’s,
thoracotomies, MI's, IABP, Impella, CRRT, ECMO, swans, sepsis, post codes, hypothermia, unstable heart blocks, unstable cardiac patients, post pacemakers, post lead extractions, heart failure, patients requiring vasopressors, intubated patients, vascular surgeries and EKOS. We also will have medical ICU overflow. All staff is CPR and ACLS certified. Other certifications include FCCS, CCRN, CSC and CMC.
EDUCATION: Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program.
EXPERIENCE: One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Some departments such as OR, Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI Lab will require advanced life support certification (ACLS and PALS).
