Unit Information:

PACU 101 at TMC is a program designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing. The program includes high quality didactic and clinical experiences to develop a well-rounded PACU RN. The didactic curriculum is based on standards from American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN).  Learning is classroom-based blended learning: computer modules, lecture, and hands on skills.  When not in the classroom the learner will be working alongside experienced PACU staff completing a structured clinical training program.

The program is offered several times a year.  Cohort size varies between 3-8 associates.

The program timeline is approximately 12-16 weeks.  During that timeframe the candidates will be expected to work Monday – Friday, day shift.  After completion of classroom requirements the associate may be required to change shifts, depending on department needs, additionally some form of on call hours are a part of the job description.  Every effort will be made to match a shift to the associate’s preferences but no guarantees will be made for either.

Requirements:

Education:  Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program. 

Experience :  One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred. 

Licensure and Certification:  Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.  Some departments such as OR, Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI Lab will require advanced life support certification (ACLS and PALS).
