Unit Information:

The Mother Baby Unit is a 47 bed unit that provides newborn, antepartum and postpartum care to adolescent and adult women.  Our nurses, many of whom hold a specialty certification in Maternal-Newborn Nursing, care for their patients with an emphasis placed on safe, compassionate, and family centered care.  Patient acuity can range from low-risk patients, who obtain their care from our highly skilled OB and Certified Nurse Midwife providers, to high risk patients, who obtain their care from our Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists.   Our full-time social worker provides care and resources to our patient population for any psycho-social needs during the patient’s inpatient stay.  Our Lactation Program, which consists of 8 International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, promotes breastfeeding to our inpatient population, as well as following patients in the Tucson community in our Outpatient Lactation Clinic.  We strive to consistently meet our core measure of exclusive breastfeeding at a rate of 50% upon discharge. 

Requirements:

Education:  Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program. 

Experience :  One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred. 

Licensure and Certification:  Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.  Some departments such as OR, Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI Lab will require advanced life support certification (ACLS and PALS).
