Job Description
SUMMARY:
Administers targeted doses of radiation as prescribed by a radiologist to a patient to treat cancer and other diseases. Assists in preparing sealed radioactive materials, calculates actual treatment dosages, and prepares equipment such as immobilization, treatment, and protection.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Administers targeted radiation therapy to treat cancerous tumors as prescribed by radiologists and oncologists.
· Positions patients with precision, operate advanced radiation therapy equipment, and ensure patient safety by adhering to radiation protection protocols.
· Delivers compassionate care, monitoring patient responses, and collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve optimal outcomes.
· Administers prescribed doses of radiation to targeted body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and safety protocols.
· Performs regular equipment checks of radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper functionality and troubleshoot issues as needed.
· Maintains records, reports, or files required, including such information as radiation dosages, equipment settings, or patients’ reaction.
· Conducts treatment sessions independently, in accordance with long-term treatment plan and under the general direction of the patient’s physician.
· Enters data into computer and set controls to operate or adjust equipment or regulate dosage
Observe and reassure patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to physician.
· Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year radiation therapist experience preferred, but not required.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Certified Therapy Technologist (CTT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of field related scanner use and application and the proper use to allow for accurate evaluation and reading by physicians.
· Knowledge of how to transfer images from disk to magnetic media to produce transparencies.
· Skill in placing the patient to ensure proper and most accurate scanning.
· Skill in providing quality control for completeness of transparencies and scans, and monitoring and using equipment.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
· Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
· Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
· Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to apply basic algebraic concepts.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
