SUMMARY:

TMC Health is a national leader using art in healing. This position will curate and manage the visual art collection across four hospitals, five cancer centers, and 21 clinics across southern Arizona. They will also manage musicians who play live in various TMC Health sites.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Curation:

·         Review and accept or decline fine art and photography donations.

·         Manage the acquisition process.

o   Facilitate donation paperwork (Deed of Gift and Gifts-in-kind)

o   Maintain physical inventory and manage database (tracking and updating)

·         Create a system to better manage and lead the consultation of artwork in TMC Health spaces and arrange for installation*

o   Meet with staff to determine needs of the project/space.

o   Determine the measurements of the artwork (and quantity of pieces needed) then order it or consult with artists to donate new work.

o   Arrange framing.

o   Create and order labels.

o   Work with installers to install artwork.

o   Notify donors of installed art.

·         Manage database (Artwork Archive)

o   Includes answering inquiries and general communication.

·         Onboard art installers as needed.

·         Work with installers and manage their invoices.

*Note: art and photography are installed anywhere in the TMC Health System, including TMC One offices, off campus clinics, the El Dorado and Rincon campuses, etc.

 

Music Program:

·         Recruit and onboard all musicians, paid and volunteer.

·         Oversee paid musicians*

·         Research best practices and opportunities around music in healthcare.

·         Create and deliver continuing training on music in healthcare for musicians.

·         Manage and submit musician invoices.

·         Investigate, create, and manage partnerships with music organizations (Arizona Arts Live, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, etc.)

*Note: volunteer musicians are vetted by Curator, but managed by Auxiliary

 

Community Engagement and Education:

·         Support the design and implementation of experiential learning that leverages the arts, storytelling, creative expression, and other modalities (in-person and/or virtual).

·         Work with Wellness department to collaborate on initiatives to benefit TMC Health employees.

·         Collaborate with New Nurses Grad Mentorship program to plan and facilitate workshops.

·         Plan, facilitate, and train docents to also give art tours.

 

Research and Evaluation:

·         Collaborate with TMC Health staff to evaluate the impact of arts integration on patient outcomes, staff, and visitor learning/wellbeing.

·         Stay abreast of leading practices in arts-in-health programs, cultivating external partnerships and fostering innovation.

 

Administrative:

·         Create an annual operating plan and multi-year strategic plan to guide the program.

·         Help create and manage the annual program budget.

·         Meet regularly with Foundation VP CDO.

·         Submit monthly updates to Foundation.

·         Apply for TMC Health Foundation Grant (yearly).

o   Submit biannual progress report to the Foundation (June and December)

 

Fundraising:

·         Work with the TMCH Foundation on fundraising from current and prospective Healing Art donors. 

o   Hand write thank-you notes for financial donations.

 

Communications:

·         Continually add to and manage mail and email lists.

·         Send articles or notes of importance to the e-mail list.

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies, and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, art history, public history, education, or a closely related field.  Master’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional work experience developing educational and public programs at a museum or cultural site.  

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

·         Must be outgoing, with exceptional customer service skills and the ability to establish positive and effective relationships with a diverse public and workforce.

·         Creative and collaborative, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

·         Effective communication skills including writing for a variety of ages and backgrounds, and public speaking.

·         Demonstrated success in developing hands-on learning experiences and engaging new audiences.

·         Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work effectively and produce positive outcomes that align with the organizational mission and resources.

·         Ability to forecast expenses and revenue, and work within a budget.

·         Knowledge of current trends in educational theory, public history, and museum best practices.

·         Demonstrated computer proficiency, including an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, email, the Internet, social media, etc. Familiarity with Teams a plus.
