Physician Advisor

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Physician Advisor will oversee the physician advisor program across Tucson Medical Center .  This program is centered on the core values of optimal use of resources for the highest quality care and with particular focus on both appropriate admission status and optimized length of stay for every patient. This colleague will have key relationships with the TMC Hospital Chief Financial Officer, the Directors of Utilization Management and Case Management and to the TMC Health Chief Health Information Officer.

The incumbent will partner with leaders in acute care nursing, case management and utilization management to solidify processes for appropriate identification of admission status initially and then on repeat review where appropriate.  The incumbent will oversee the physician participation in interdisciplinary rounds and identify opportunities to enhance IDT to ensure it is a driver for staff satisfaction and an enhanced discharge experience for patients. 

The incumbent will be expected to be clinically active at a minimum of 50% effort which can be in any specialty that involves contact with acute inpatient care.  The incumbent will also act as the leader of the physician advisor team and the recruitment of up to 4 colleagues who will act as direct physician advisors for units and/or service lines.  These advisors , working between 0.1 and 0.2 effort will be direct partners with unit managers to identify opportunities in throughput and to engage with the attending staff for patients.  That engagement will involve feedback regarding documentation quality and specificity to support not only accuracy in coding and risk estimation but also to support front line clinicians in peer to peer approval processes. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Doctor of Medicine degree.

EXPERIENCE:  Internship and/or Residency

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Board certified/eligible; for Mental Health only Crisis Prevention Instruction (CPI) required.
