Job Description
SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in processing and compounding prescriptions and other drug orders. Pulls prescribed medication from shelf, enters medication charges into the computer, restocks pharmacy automation, and handles telephone inquiries. Provides training, guidance, and mentoring to pharmacy technicians. Able to perform proficiencies of pharmacy technicians I and II.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Enters or retrieves data accurately from established computer files and pharmaceutical reports.
Aids leadership for direction and oversight in developing policies and procedures, which support organizational goals and objectives.
Effectively helps to interview and train employees; helps to evaluate employee performance as appropriate; delegates work assignments as needed.
Prepares detailed reports that provide a range of data to assist management in evaluating performance and competencies.
Maintains competencies as designated by Department of Pharmacy.
Provides guidance and training to newly hired pharmacy technicians.
Develops contingency plans and responds to unforeseen circumstances utilizing planned resources.
Provides department support as a Pyxis &/or QS1/drug distributor resource person on evening shifts and weekends while staffing those shifts/days.
Assists pharmacists as directed, including processing, and preparing medications for dispensing.
Prepares and makes deliveries to patient care areas and ancillary units.
Complies with Federal and State statutes, rules, and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies, and standards.
Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all patients, visitors, and staff.
Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience required. One (1) year experience as a pharmacy technician at TMC HealthCare preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: Due to insurance company requirements, incumbent must be 21 years of age or older, due to incremental use of a company car.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Valid Arizona driver’s license. Licensed by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician, Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
