Job Description
SUMMARY:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Interviews patient or agent for all required information to develop a comprehensive list of prior to admission medications or provision of discharge prescriptions/service.
Reviews or performs Prior to Admit (PTA) medication history process in order to document an up to date patient medication history or provision of accurate discharge prescriptions/service.
Enters or retrieves data accurately from established computer files and pharmaceutical reports.
Provides assistance to leadership for direction and oversight in developing policies and procedures, which support organizational goals and objectives.
Effectively helps to interview and train employees; helps to evaluate employee performance as appropriate; delegates work assignments as needed.
Prepares detailed reports that provide a range of data to assist management in evaluating performance and competencies.
Maintains competencies as designated by Department of Pharmacy.
Provides guidance and training to newly hired pharmacy technicians.
Develops contingency plans and responds to unforeseen circumstances utilizing planned resources.
Provides department support as a Pyxis &/or QS1/drug distributor resource person on evening shifts and weekends while staffing those shifts/days.
Assists pharmacists as directed, including processing and preparing medications for dispensing.
Prepares and makes deliveries to patient care areas and ancillary units.
Complies with Federal and State statutes, rules and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards.
Performs duties of Pharmacy Technicians I & II.
Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.
Performs related duties as assigned.
IV Room Trainer:
Responsible party for all regulatory training, competencies and compliance. Responsible for tracking and maintaining appropriate records on-line. Responsible party for developing, maintaining and enacting action plans for compliance. Communicating above with appropriate leadership and reporting structure. Certification: Must acquire and maintain Certified Sterile Preparation Technician certification through PTCB within 1 year of hire.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience, including at least one year as a pharmacy technician at TMC HealthCare.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: Due to insurance company requirements, incumbent must be 21 years of age or older, due to incremental use of a company car.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Valid Arizona driver’s license. Licensed by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician, Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. For IV Room Trainer must acquire and maintain Certified Sterile Preparation Technician certification through PTCB within 1 year of hire.

Knowledge of pharmaceutical practices and procedures and regulations involving the administering of medications.
Knowledge of medicine terminology.
Knowledge of medication reconciliation &/or adjudication process.
Skill in communicating both orally and in writing.
Skill in compounding and processing prescriptions.
Skill in training and guiding staff.
Skill in evaluating performance and making recommendations for improvement.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply basic algebraic concepts
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
