Provides assistance to the Office of General Counsel in preparing and organizing a wide array of legal documents, contracts, reports, documents, claim and litigation management files. Performs routine legal research and compiles data from such references as digests, encyclopedias, practice manuals or other resources.
Supports the Associate General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer in the completion of projects and performs duties as assigned.
Contracting and Corporate :
Prepares a variety of physician contracts including coverage agreements, employment agreements, independent contractor agreements and other physician alignment agreements.
Manages physician contracting database and process around amendments, updates, and renewals of contracts.
Provides user training and assistance with physician contracting database and processes.
Assists Contracting Department with service contracts as directed.
Maintains corporate meeting Minutes Books and Annual Reports; draft corporate resolutions.
Risk and Claims Management :
Assists with maintaining legal, claims and risk management files and records on an ongoing basis so that information can be quickly retrieved; appropriately disposes of or archives files per legal requirements.
Posts data to various records and forms, makes and maintains charts, gathers data from various sources and prepare reports, answers and files correspondence and performs similar duties requiring the exercise of independent judgment and knowledge of claims.
Coordinates with the TMCH’s insurance carriers and captive self-insurance company (GLPIC) to maintain claim documentation in accordance with audit requirements, facilitate auditor meetings, and complete initial reporting of professional and general liability claims and potential claims to insurance carriers. Scan and log third party certificates received in preparation for evaluation. Provided monthly report of claim related expenses for GLPIC reimbursement process.
As directed by the Associate General Counsel or the Chief Legal Officer assists the nurse investigators with the investigation of significant adverse events and claims.
Prepares letters, reports and memoranda from verbal direction, or from knowledge of hospital policy or procedures; edits and corrects data on routine documents.
Formats special reports and presentations including tabular displays, and graphics.
Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages, and provides routine information to callers.
Operates a personal computer, word processing equipment and various software applications, MediTract database, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine or related office machinery in performing assigned duties.
Collaborates with outside counsel retained for specific problems and assignments.
Retrieves information requested by members of the Office of General Counsel.
EDUCATION: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school for paralegal training and certification.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of related experience in healthcare or law firm background.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.
