JOB TITLE: Nurse Manager
REPORTS TO: Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Clinical Officer
Responsible for oversight and management of the Medical Floor and GI at NCCH, to include inpatient and outpatient nursing services. Responsible for ensuring the Medical Floor and GI is in compliance with goals, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements of the hospital and the nursing department. Responsible for effective and compassionate patient care on the Medical Floor and GI. Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer regarding patient, financial, and personnel management for the Medical Floor and GI.
Responsible for the workflow and Patient Care on the Medical Floor:
Oversees nursing care services, both Inpatient and Outpatient, essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients' health and wellness.
Evaluates activities of Medical Floor workflow to ensure patient care, quality, and efficiency of service.
Responsible for maintaining, updating and implementing Medical Floor policies and procedures to ensure compliance with CMS regulations.
Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting services, and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.
Investigates and resolves complaints, and/or refers unusual problems as appropriate.
Directly supervises Outpatient Services including but not limited to:Transfusions, infusion procedures, wound management.
Monitors and ensures accuracy of documentation in patient medical records through chart reviews.
Monitors, reviews, and recommends changes to the EMR system, to include template creation
Monitors patient care for quality and compliance with evidence-based standards.
Keeps informed of special orders concerning patients.
Manages Medical Floor Staff:
Coordinates Inpatient and Outpatient Services activities and work assignments of staff to include creation of schedule and managing Time Off requests.
Responsible for payroll activities on a daily basis to include overtime tacking.
Responsible for the evaluation of staff performance and competency.
Investigates and resolves staff complaints, and/or refers unusual problems to appropriate parties.
Participates in the evaluation and verification of employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
Responsible for new Medical Floor staff orientation, as well as Hospitalist orientation, and EMR trainings.
Coordinates and schedules staff meetings and skills fair for staff.
Participates in the evaluation of staffing patterns for budgetary purposes, efficiency, and quality care.
Manages Endoscopy patient care services
Verifies availability of all supplies required for correct operation of the department.
Ensures cleanliness, sterility and operational functionality of all equipment.
Schedules and assigns staff to increase efficiency and coordination of department.
Provides training for new staff members
According to nursing principles, directs staff with respect to nursing care given to all ages of patients.
Performs all aspects of patient care as needed.
Ensures services are provided in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical departments to meet organizational and patient care needs:
Collaborates with Infection Control Nurse on infection prevention measures and education.
Works with Case Management/Utilization review on discharge planning, utilization review, and case management.
Takes an active role and proactive participation in quality assessment and quality improvement activities/analysis, and other projects as assigned.
Monitors and extracts CMS Core Measure data.
Manage and meet goals set by NCCH to include but not limited to: meeting Meaningful Use requirements and leading activities to increase and/or maintain HCAHPS scores.
Works with Finance meeting budget goals, as well as planning purchases of equipment or Medical Floor items.
Attends all required staff and committee meetings.
Provides relief for staff and/or with patient care when patient load is high. This includes: coverage of shifts and/or taking patient assignments as needed.
Serves as a back up to a Nursing Administration Member when appropriate.
Participates in Community outreach or educational events as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
BSN from an accredited school of Nursing with a minimum of 4 years acute care nursing experience, or RN from an accredited school of Nursing with 8 years acute care nursing experience required. MSN preferred. Recent supervisory experience required. Recent Medical Floor and/or Critical Access Hospital experience strongly preferred.
Current, unrestricted, Arizona Registered Nurse License
Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) – required within 6 months of hire.
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS) – preferred.
Emergency preparedness training preferred, to include Intermediate and Advanced Incident Management System. Completion of NIMS Courses 100 (Relias Part 2-5) within one (1) year.
Subject to on call and call back after hours and on weekends and during emergency conditions. Professionally Able to function in any of the Command Staff & General Staff functions of the Hospital Incident Command System ( HICS)
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES
Knowledge of advanced nursing care.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
Demonstrated leadership ability and managerial competency.Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others.
Working knowledge of Milliman criteria preferred.
Working knowledge/familiarity with CMS core measures.Experience in CMS data abstraction.
