TMC's New Nurse / Student Nurse Externship Program begins June 2, 2025 and runs for 8 weeks
Come join TMC and get paid while you learn! This program is designed for nursing students completing their final semester of nursing school and will be graduating in December 2025 and May 2026. Work 36 hours per week to develop your nursing skills with a nurse preceptor.
TMC's New Nurse Pathway/Student Nurse Externship Program
Join TMC and get paid while you learn! We offer two programs designed to facilitate your transition to a professional nursing role:
1. Student Nurse Externship Program
· Eligibility: Nursing students who have completed their 2nd semester and will graduate in December 2025 or May 2026.
· Details: Work 36 hours per week with a nurse preceptor, including weekly skill development sessions, to enhance your nursing skills.
· Start Date: June 2nd and continues for a total of 8 weeks
2. New Nurse Pathway Program
· Eligibility: Nursing students completing their practicum this fall and graduating in December 2025.
· Details: Complete your school's Transition to Practice experience on the unit where you will start as a New Grad Registered Nurse. Although this program is unpaid, you will receive a contingent offer of employment for a specific unit, allowing you to ensure it is a good fit for you.
· Start Date: Fall semester 2025
SUMMARY:
Responsible for direct patient care services on a specific unit under the direct supervision of an RN. Provides personal care and assists with the implementation of selected portions of a care plan including respiratory services, rehabilitation services, and phlebotomy under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times, including patient information, proprietary information and personnel information.
Formulates and implements accurate and timely care.
Takes care of the body after death.
Assists patients with activities of daily living.
Takes vital signs, weighs patients, and collects routine urine specimens; cleans catch specimens, stool specimens, and sputum specimens.
Maintains patient safety and infection control standards; promotes a safe therapeutic environment that allows for the delivery of high quality patient care.
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and discharges; monitors and restocks supplies.
Performs dressing changes and treatments using aseptic technique; opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
Discontinues IV lines and performs EKGs.
Performs nursing skills under the direct supervision of a RN and as specified in a competency assessment tool.
Promotes a safe, therapeutic environment.
Documents and reports outcome of patient care activities; charts observations and vital signs on assigned patients in legible, accurate, and appropriate format following hospital and unit procedures.
Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis; notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.
Participates in the orientation of new program personnel and in the ongoing in-service education of the team.
Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE : Must have completed an acute care clinical rotation. Students are eligible to serve as nurse externs prior to graduation and ideally, immediately before their final semester of Nursing School.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION : Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Additional certifications may be required per department.
