SUMMARY:

Provides continuous cardiac monitor observation to detect, record, and report normal and abnormal heart rhythms patterns and provide ECG interval measurements. Analyzes the function of pacemakers and internal cardiac defibrillators; records and reports improper function. Consults with nursing staff and medical staff regarding heart rhythm patterns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sets up and ensures proper functioning of ECG monitoring equipment; applies electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient and checks their performance.

Records and calculates all necessary parameters and interpret ECG tracings for diagnostic purposes.

Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the appropriate individuals

Responds to emergency situations.

Maintains logs or reports as directed for equipment malfunctions.

Performs clerical duties such as answering telephone.

Participates in the orientation of new personnel and in the ongoing in-service education of the team.

Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards.

Performs related duties assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:  No experience required.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATIONBasic Life Support (BLS) certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Skill in attention to detail, and following directions.

  • Ability to learn how to set up equipment to ensure the most accurate readings.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
