Medical Director - Behavioral Health Care
The medical director is responsible for the clinical direction, administrative leadership and professional guidance of the behavioral health care program at TMC. This role also is responsible for continued clinical excellence on the inpatient Gero-psych unit, the behavioral health consult team and collaborative professionalism throughout the care continuum.
Monitor and review with the director all aspects of clinical care.
Work collaboratively with the director on strategic planning, programmatic development, resource management, and quality improvement.
Lead educational programs for TMC and the community regarding dementia and behavioral health issues concerning the Geriatric population
Provide medical and administrative direction and supervision to psychiatric practitioners (psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners)
Evaluate and review work of psychiatric practitioners for appropriate diagnosis, treatment and documentation
Serve on hospital and community committees that promote behavioral health care.
Participate in the interdisciplinary behavioral health care clinical team and provide direct patient care.
Build effective relationships with referring physicians to sustain a strong culture of collaboration among specialists, primary care physicians, nurses, and other staff to meet the needs of behavioral health care patients.
Participate as medical leader in the development and review of clinical protocols and processes that support appropriate referral to and ensure consistent quality behavioral health care.
Work closely with physicians and administrators to ensure that the behavioral health care service is well integrated with TMC’s educational and quality initiatives.
Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, and nursing students on psychiatric rotations.
Develop strategic direction for quality initiatives in collaboration with director, behavioral health care team and supporting physician groups(s).
Monitor and adapt program metrics to meet or exceed national standards/benchmarks.
Enforce policies and procedures, Joint Commission standards, and CMS and ADHS regulations
Serve as a liaison with the hospital for possible behavioral health care related projects/studies.
Section Chief for TMC Psychiatry Section
In cooperation with Department Chairs and Section Chiefs, assist in the supervision of the clinical and professional performance of the Medical Staff as it relates to Behavioral Health Care Services, as outlined in the Bylaws of the Medical Staff. Intervene, when necessary, to educate and guide physicians whenever physician noncompliance, patient compliance or misunderstandings relating to regulations or policies occurs.
EDUCATION: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy in psychiatry.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of medical director experience in psychiatry required. Inpatient, outpatient, managed care operations, utilization review, quality management, risk management, and Geriatric experience preferred.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Medical Doctor: Arizona.
