JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant / RFT / Sulphur Springs Medical Center
REPORTS TO: Practice Manager
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of a licensed physician/provider. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Assists with patient appointment scheduling and patient chart management. Assists in the provision of quality patient care and may be assigned to work at either clinic location as needed (i.e. Sunsites or Willcox).

Provides patient care.
Prepares exam room by cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and stocking supplies.
Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height, and records information on patient's chart.
Assist provider with examinations and procedures.
Administers injections and treatments and obtains specimens as instructed by provider's orders.
Calls or faxes prescriptions to pharmacy per provider's orders.
Contacts patients with test results at provider's request.
Documents all patient care provided and obtains required consents.
Monitors refrigerator, freezer, quality control and test logs.
Assess and triage patients with urgent or emergent care needs.
Assists in the provision of quality patient care and may be assigned to work at either clinic location as needed (i.e. Sunsites or Willcox).
Provides emotional and psychological support to patients and families.
Provides patient education as requested by provider.
Informs patients of general medical information.
Answers medical questions from patients.
Teaches patients about diabetic testing procedures, newborn/infant care, medical equipment, etc.
Assess and triage patients with urgent or emergent card needs.
Files medical records and produces referrals.
Updates, organizes, and files progress notes, correspondence, and lab or x-ray reports.
Writes referrals and calls insurance companies for authorizations.
Supplies provider list for patients to make appointments.
Applies proper coding for procedures and testing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant experience preferred.
Current CPR Certificate required.
Proof of completion from an acceptable Medical Assistant Training Program required
Proof of completion of "Qualification Training on Urine Specimen Collections" preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES
- Required knowledge of medical terminology, and clinical standards, practices, and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of ICD-9/CPT coding.
- Skills in phlebotomy, injections, etc.
- Strong typing skills and working knowledge of computer systems particularly with a windows based environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customer and co-workers, and multi-task.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
