Job Description
SUMMARY:
Lead and provide exceptional patient experience by delivering friendly, prompt, and quality service to patients. The Medical Assistant Lead will strive to meet each patient’s individual needs by performing the following primary duties: obtain and secure patient information, prepare patients for examinations, counsel patients by transmitting physician orders, document medical information, and provide basic patient care under the direction of the providers, management, and policies. The Medical Assistant Lead will serve as the point person for other medical assistants if they need help or further training, serve as the first point of clinical contact for the office, and may supervise medical assistants and other support staff in the absence of supervisor.
MEDICAL ASSISTANT LEAD SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leads, trains and supports medical assistant staff, orients new hires, and may supervise staff in the absence of supervisor.
Formulates and implements accurate and timely care while enhancing the patient experience.
Takes vital signs, weighs patients, and collects routine urine specimens, cleans catch specimens, stool specimens, and sputum specimens; draws blood from patient and return test tubes to the laboratory.
Performs dressing changes and treatments using aseptic technique.
Performs EKGs.
Routinely checks expiration dates and ensures all medications are properly stored and expired drugs properly disposed of.
Obtains prior authorizations, manages referrals, assists with the scheduling of procedures and performs other related tasks to assist physician and patient.
Calls patients regarding test results, follow-up appointment visits, and missed appointments. Schedules patient visits and assists with their medical needs.
Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and discharges; monitors and restocks supplies.
Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
Charts observations and vital signs on assigned patients in legible, accurate and appropriate format following procedures
Promotes a safe therapeutic environment that allows for the delivery of high quality patient care.
Participates in the orientation of new program personnel and in the ongoing in-service education of the team; participates in ongoing staff education.
Receive, assess, and transfer phone calls, and messages within the department with courtesy and promptness. Handles patient complaints and reports to supervisor when needed.
Escorts patients to and from the exam room, takes vital signs and notes reason for visit. Documents all clinical interactions with patients and signs documentation.
Posts information to records; maintains files and records; inputs and retrieves data utilizing knowledge of various computer software packages.
Updates knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
Transcribes orders; schedules appointments.
Operates a personal computer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine or related office machinery in performing assigned duties.
Processes patient charges as required.
Serves and protects the practice by adhering to TMCH organizational and professional standards, values, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements.
Leads medical assistant staff during state inspections and in performing duties related to regulatory compliance, including the state regulatory vaccination monitoring and reporting.
Orders supplies and monitors inventory.
Performs related duties as assigned while upholding the highest internal and external customer service practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of medical assistance experience required.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of patient care protocols and practices.
Knowledge of general patient care practice, methods and regulations.
Skill in attending to patients with care and attention to needs.
Skill in assisting with more complex patient care programs.
Ability to lead, train and orient staff.
Ability to recognize a patient in distress and follow directions to get assistance.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
Ability to communicate with positivity and effectiveness with patients, staff members, and with the general public.
Ability to perform basic math skills including: subtraction, multiplication, and division, whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and the ability to solve problems with these skills.
Ability to follow directions and protocols to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
