Manages bed assignment system by accepting all appropriate unit bed assignments made based on admission criteria rapidly and efficiently. Ensures appropriate patient care and resource utilization by facilitating admission to the appropriate status, level of care, and unit.
Obtains clinical information and screens all requests for patient admissions for appropriateness of admission, status, level of care, using InterQual criteria.
Applies in-depth knowledge of regulations such as EMTALA and Medicare COP to issues of admission, status, level of care, and priority.
Facilitates timely acceptance of admissions from physician offices and other facilities, so that no appropriate potential admission is lost due to untimely bed assignment.
Collaborates with the admitting department to ensure accurate information in order to eliminate lost reimbursements for direct admissions.
Collaborates with Admitting Physician to insure correct admission status and level of care, and accepts admission orders.
Collaborates with nursing units, ED, House Supervisor for patient admission status and level of care.
Manages Patient Admission and Tracking System to ensure proper patient placement.
Educates staff and physicians regarding InterQual criteria and utilization.
Refers complicated patient issues relating to status to Physician Adviser and follows up to ensure accurate patient status.
Assists Manager in maintaining and compiling direct admission statistics on a daily basis.
Identifies and resolves workplace health and safety issues.
Complies with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards.
EDUCATION: Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program.
PREFERRED: Five (5) years of varied nursing experience in an acute care setting.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current LPN licensure permitting work in the state of Arizona.
