SUMMARY:

Counsels and assists employees with issues such as stress, conflicts, and transitions that affect job-related performance and personal well-being, using empirically-supported therapeutic treatment modalities.  Performs psychosocial evaluations and refers to outside treatment and counseling when clinically indicated.  The Counselor will also offer life and management coaching to employees and leadership.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Intake interviews and assessments to obtain information about home environment, family relationships, health history, and personality traits.

Development and implementation of initial and continuing treatment plans. 

Acts as a liaison between client, family, and hospital staff during periods of crisis. 

Intervene in emotional crisis situations by providing emotional support and crisis intervention; assess and makes recommendations for Level 1 care when appropriate.

Act as a resource for staff.

Document in a clear, complete, concise, and organized manner.

Adhere to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Perform related duties as assigned.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Master’s degree in counseling or social work required. 

EXPERIENCE:   Five (5) years of counseling and/or social work experience required, preferably in an acute care setting. 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:  Must hold active, unrestricted LAC, LPC, LMSW, or LCSW license with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of computer application software such as Microsoft Office products.

  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and hospital policies.

  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills. Works collaboratively.

  • Skill in evaluating cases and determining appropriate treatment plans.

  • Ability to present relevant topics to individuals and small or large groups.

  • Ability to work independently in assessing staff and making clinical decisions and judgements.

  • Ability to provide therapeutic techniques to provide problem resolution.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
