SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of tasks to maintain the overall appearance of the buildings and hospital grounds and provides a clean, safe, and attractive environment for patients, visitors and employees.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintains hospital grounds using all types of grounds keeping equipment and tools.

Sweeps and cleans floors and working areas, picks up paper and refuse from grounds, assists in handling of heavy materials, makes minor repairs, mows lawns, and performs related duties.

Schedules and coordinates activities for the maintenance and care of the hospital grounds and adjoining property.

Prepares and grades terrain; seeds and/or sods lawns; transplants and plants shrubs, plants, and trees.

Ensures compliance with established standards for appearance, repairs and condition for facility.

Applies pesticides and fertilizers according to established standards.

Mows and trims lawns; repairs established lawns; plants new lawns.

Maintains driveways and parking lots.

Connects and maintains sprinkler equipment, waters lawn, flowerbeds, gardens, shrubs, and trees; installs new equipment and systems; repairs and maintains current irrigation equipment and systems as needed; performs minor plumbing repairs.

Assists maintenance mechanics in the servicing and repairs of machinery and mechanical equipment.

Keeps drainage ditches and culverts free of obstructions; picks up trash and litter; removes trash bags from containers and replaces bags.

Maintains all required records and information pertinent to costing out work assignments and documentation of time.

 

Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Facilities and Plant Svc:

Responsible for preparing construction sites by cleaning, loading and/or unloading materials, and removing hazards.  Responsible for operating and caring for construction equipment, assisting carpenters when necessary, and putting together and taking apart temporary structures such as containment and construction barriers.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Two (2) years of landscaping experience.

 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Must maintain a current TMC Tug license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of landscaping and irrigation best practices.

  • Skill in the use of tools to perform a variety of landscaping and irrigation repairs and installations.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to complete routine reports, work orders, and correspondence.

  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.

  • Ability to read a clock and accurately document time.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
