Job Description
SUMMARY:
Leads the CT team to ensure imaging techniques, protocols and ALARA are being met when scanning patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leads team to ensure operation of imaging equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, evaluating new equipment and techniques. Responsible to make sure system protocols are meeting physicist and ACR requirements. Oversees technical procedures, patient care and workflow to ensure safe and effective patient care. Acts as a role model and facilitator in collaboration with all levels of departmental personnel.
Responsible for coordinating patient schedules and daily work assignments. Serves as a resource for technologist in the department. Keeps staff updated on scanning protocols and procedure changes. The lead will demonstrate mastery of all hospital and clinical level competencies
Responsible to make sure technologist are competent on how to transfer images, scan with appropriate technique to reduce dose to patients, position patients safely on table, appropriately center and scan patient according to reading radiologist
Responsible to make sure technologist are competent in maintaining production of quality images by following established standards, guidelines, and/or procedures; developing images, observing results; making necessary adjustments.
Maintains as a professional member of the healthcare team including physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in diagnostic testing procedures.
Adheres to medical and surgical asepsis and standard precautions as required per procedure.
Practices radiation protection techniques, minimize radiation to patient and staff, following established safety protocols.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Prepares room and equipment for patient.
Prepares the patient and explains the procedure; observes the patient’s status before, during and after procedure.
Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of examinations and procedures, answering questions.
Responsible to maintain inventory control; checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis. performs routine daily equipment maintenance and cleaning. Will report to supervisor and/or manager when items need to be ordered or purchased.
Performs clerical duties and transports patients as required.
Uses all department systems, including order entry, scheduling, patient location, and transport, and radiology information system.
Assists with quality control/performance improvement measures as required.
Responsible to help educate and train new technologist in the department. Ensure skills list for new staff is completed and signed off. Skills list will be turned into manager to be placed in employee’s education folders.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
CT Technologist Lead specific duties:
Performs CT scan studies, obtains patient history, explains procedures, and addresses patient concerns. Performs venipuncture for IV and contrast administration, using aseptic technique. Lead technologist will be responsible to see that staff is adhering to safe scanning practices
Performs routine CT computer functions such as archiving, copying, imaging and manipulation of image data. Practices radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, minimizes radiation to patient and staff. Assumes responsibility for implementing equipment repair/replacement, maintenance, and cleanliness. Observes patients’ status before, during and after procedure; may perform any or all duties of a technical assistant. Ensures accurate maintenance of patients’ medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information. Provides training to students, staff and physicians. Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards. Performs related duties as assigned.
Lead technologist responsibilities will include but not limited to updated CT scanner protocols adhering to ACR, center radiologist and physicist requirements. Updated protocol books that must be signed off yearly by medical director of radiology and MRI/CT manager. Need to adhere to all ALARA scanning practices. Develops and expands staff members imaging skills. Implements techniques to minimize the occurrence of artifacts and repeats. Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of CT experience with advanced licensure/certification in CT
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: For CT Tech - Arizona Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Arizona Certified CT Technologist (CTCT), Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. For Mammography - Arizona Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Certified Mammography Tech (CMT), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of regulations regarding patient care, fire safety, infection control, disaster plan and emergency codes and procedures.
- Skill in providing computerized tomographic scanner radiographs.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to apply basic algebraic concepts
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
