SUMMARY:
Performs master level abilities in one or more trades, such as plumbing, painting and roofing. Uses respective trade proficiency for renovation and remodeling projects throughout hospital property.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. 

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies and standards.

Performs trade skills, ensuring compliance with all building codes; inspects completed work and ensures that work conforms to requirements of local building and safety regulations.

Logs and tracks work orders, ensuring that they are complete and meet departmental policies.

Reads and understands all architectural and mechanical blueprints used within the assigned skill environment.

Organizes and maintains an inventory of tools, equipment and supplies; orders replacement parts.

Develops estimates of time, labor, materials, and cost requirements.

Coordinates planning, scheduling, and implementation of activities to accomplish work in cooperation with other sections of department and/or other hospital departments and services.

May perform tasks in all phases of plumbing including rough, intermediate, and trim. Operates within the guidelines of the fire codes and makes changes to existing fire sprinkler systems.

May perform tasks in all phases of painting and wood finishing.  Installs tapes and textures drywall and drywall products; performs all drywall covering functions.

May perform tasks in all phases of roofing, set up, patch work and all new.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:  Four (4) years of trade related experience at the mastery level, preferred.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Varies depending upon specialty area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of building trades, procedures, regulations, and codes as it pertains to plumbing, electrical, structural, cabling and roofing repairs.

  • Skill in the operation of tools and applying building trade knowledge in a variety of skilled trades for facility construction.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to log activities and complete routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to apply basic algebraic concepts.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
