SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of Finance will play a critical leadership role in overseeing financial operations, strategic planning, and ensuring the company’s financial health. This position is responsible for leading the finance team, implementing financial strategies, managing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and supporting the executive team with financial analysis and decision-making.

The Executive Director of Finance will have the unique opportunity and responsibility to work with the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and other senior leadership to build and solidify the financial team and processes for the organization. This role is a key part of the organization’s succession planning efforts, and it is truly an opportunity to create, grow, and expand rather than an opportunity to continue with the current status quo.

The Executive Director of Finance will provide subject matter expertise and executive leadership to help move the needle in all areas related to operational.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. Financial Planning & Analysis:

·          Oversees budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning for Tucson Medical Center.

 

·          Develops the timeframes and budget assumptions and communication of such to individuals involved throughout the process; development of systems and methodologies to be employed in the process; establishment of operating targets; preparation of presentations; serving as primary financial support throughout the process.

 

·          Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, analysis, and presentations for senior leadership of Tucson Medical Center.

 

·          Ensuring consistency of financial reporting and metrics across the operating units within the health system.

 

2. Leadership & Team Management:

·         Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, ensuring development, engagement, and high performance.

·         Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance department.

·         Leading and developing operational finance department processes and staff development.

·         Fosters positive team collaboration and staff development to facilitate efficient operations, employee engagement and customer service excellence goals.

·         Recruits, interviews, and selects staff in collaboration with Human Resources and ensures that staffing guidelines/standards are maintained. Maintains appropriate measurements of quality and productivity to evaluate systems and staffing.

 

3. Financial Operations & Reporting:

·         Supervise the preparation and timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

·         Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.

·         Providing leadership for establishing and maintaining routine systems for reporting, including, but not limited to:

o  Executive dashboards

o  FTE and labor productivity

o  Ratio analysis

·         Coordinates the preparation and presentation of financial information to executive team and senior executive team     as needed.

4. Process Improvement:

·         Continuously assess and improve financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

·         Implement best practices in financial reporting, risk management, and operational processes.

·         Work cross-functionally with other departments to streamline financial workflows and enhance organizational effectiveness.

  • Provides input which will be used to establish standards and strategic initiatives which support organizational and patient care goals.

 

  • ·         Routinely measures and monitors assigned area of responsibility. 

  •        Assists in creating and assumes responsibility of managing processes which contribute to continual performance improvement and customer satisfaction.

  • ·          Manages systems, functions, and resources to maximize quality and efficiency of departmental operations.

  • ·          Assists with the development and implementation of policies and management/operational structures to ensure continuous customer service.

·          Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of eight (8) - ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, with at least three (3) - five (5) years in a leadership role.  Experience in a complex and matrixed health care environment is required.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

·         Thorough knowledge of budgeting and financial planning/analysis in healthcare practices, and concepts.

·         Proven experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and managing financial teams.

·         Experience with financial software, ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.

·         Strong leadership and people management skills with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.

·         Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

·         Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

·         Provides communication to administration, management, and staff to establish collaborative communication and understanding of the organization mission and strategic goals necessary to achieve operational goals.

·         Meets regularly with other departments and direct reports to facilitate communication, goal setting and decision making.

·         Excellent analytical, problem solving, and negotiating skills, with the ability to think critically. Significant attention to detail required.

·         Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.

·         Appreciation for organizational subtleties and a high level of discretion.

·         A highly respected leader with excellent relationship-building, oral, written, presentation, organizational and project management skills.

·         Customer service experience and focus.

·         Ability to learn quickly and eagerness to grow.

·         Highly flexible and someone who can adapt quickly to a changing environment. Comfort working effectively within a dynamic, occasionally ambiguous environment is important.
