Monday- Friday position, no nights, weekends or major holidays. 


The Director of Nursing is accountable and responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the clinical operations of the Surgery Center. The Director of Nursing is responsible to the Administrator and assumes administrative responsibility in his or her absence. The Director of Nursing coordinates activities routinely, as appropriate, with the Administrator, Medical Director, Unit Managers, Materials Manager, and Business Office Manager.


  • Maintains services in accordance with written policies and in compliance with various regulatory and accrediting agencies and is responsible for quality patient care.
  • In cooperation with the Medical Director, develops and monitors standards of care.
  • In conjunction with the Medical Director and Administrator, determines clinical goals and effectively manages resources to achieve the goals.
  • In conjunction with the Medical Director and Administrator ensures accreditation compliance and ongoing survey preparedness.
  • In conjunction with Materials Manager, ensures an adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrates effective financial and resource management to include budget development as necessary.
  • Manages clinical personnel, which includes; recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and retention of clinical employees.
  • The Director of Nursing directs clinical personnel on a daily basis in conjunction with the unit managers, which includes the management of the daily staffing process, conflict resolution, counseling and coaching staff as needed.
  • Delegates daily activities to staff appropriately and effectively.
  • Fosters an environment which promotes staff growth and development.
  • Develops and facilitates an orientation program along with competencies with measurable criteria.
  • Assesses the clinical staff's educational needs and implements programs to meet those needs.
  • Facilitates meetings and group processes.
  • Ensures adherence to Surgery Center policies, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Revises and develops policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Reviews and revises job descriptions on an annual basis for accuracy.
  • Prepares detailed reports for administration and attend Board meetings as necessary. Attends MEC quarterly.
  • In cooperation with the Medical Director and Administrator, is responsible for quality improvement, risk management, safety and infection control.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Surgery Center, local hospitals and surgical facilities, and the community.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and consultation skills with patients, families, physicians, staff and superiors.
  • Assists the Administrator with securing contractual services necessary for daily operations.
  • Maintains an awareness and understanding of current regulatory legislation as it impacts the Surgery Center and institutes changes as warranted.
  • On an as-needed basis, assists with all aspects of Surgery Center activities to include functioning in the role of the Perioperative and/or Perianesthesia Registered Nurse.
  • Executes other functions as assigned by the Administrator. 


  • Current licensure in this state as a registered nurse; BSN degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated managerial competence and three years management experience; preferably in an ambulatory surgery center.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Human relations skills.
  • ACLS, PALS certification required within 3 months of date of hire.
  • Current BCLS certification.
