SUMMARY:

Schedules, plans and delivers prescribed occupational therapy treatments, services and home instruction to patients in such areas as daily living skills, functional mobility, neuromuscular re-education, vocational, general musculoskeletal, energy conservation, and joint protection.  Utilizes orthotic and adaptive equipment and positioning devices as required.  Electronically documents patient status and reports changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administers occupational therapy care, or portions of programs as directed by a licensed occupational therapist.

Recognizes and recommends changes for improvement in program content.

Assists therapist during patient testing, evaluations, and complex procedures.

Carries out a program of therapeutic exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as determined by evaluation performed by the occupational therapist.

Monitors patient condition levels; reports changes to the appropriate individual.

Documents patient care efficiently, timely, and effectively through written communication.

Provides instruction in therapeutic procedures to be continued by patient and or family/caregiver.

Conducts, or participates in training in therapy techniques and objectives.

Attends patient care conferences and other related meetings.

Coordinates with other service areas to ensure proper patient care.

Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. 

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college, or technical school required.

EXPERIENCE:  Acute Care: None required.  Preferred: One (1) to two (2) years of acute inpatient or acute rehabilitation experience.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Arizona Certification as Occupational Therapy Assistant and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of

  • Skill in administering occupational therapy care, or portions of programs, as directed by a licensed occupational therapist.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to complete electronic reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication, or instructions, to take appropriate action.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients/families, or employees of the organization.

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers; ability to read a clock and accurately document time.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved electronic, or oral instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
