SUMMARY:
Designs, manufactures and installs cabinets and furniture. Performs master level carpentry work on facility construction projects, and provides assistance to other personnel with other carpentry remodeling projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs master level carpentry work including framing, finish, doors, and cabinets.
Develops estimates of time, labor, material, and requirements for all carpentry projects.
Reads and interprets blueprints, work orders and other types of instructions to design and construct projects according to customer’s specifications or industry standards when applicable.
Coordinates activities with customers for least work disruption and timely completion of projects.
Identifies and uses the appropriate wood, plastic, glass, plexiglas and/or laminate for fabricated items.
Finishes and refinishes millwork with stains, lacquers and varnishes.
Frames and hangs doors; replaces or repairs windows, picture frames, handrails, or other items as required.
Operates and maintains a variety of power and hand tools, including but not limited to band saw, mortiser, drill press, power saw, jointer, shaper and wood lathe.
Notifies supervisor regarding needed tool and equipment repairs; submits supply order sheets on a weekly basis.
Makes accurate measurements and cuts of materials to minimize waste and need for additional supplies.
May be required to remove asbestos from older construction.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of related mastery carpentry or cabinet making experience.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Ability to pass asbestos and respirator physical. In other departments: CFC Refrigerant certificate, Reg Locksmith, Valid AZ drivers license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of carpentry practices especially as it relates to cabinet making.
Knowledge of safety practices to follow to prevent accidents in the performance and use of tools used in carpentry and remodeling.
Skill in the use of a variety of tools both power and hand used in cabinet making and other carpentry projects.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence to report on status of projects.
Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
