Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Surgical Services provides enterprise‑level leadership for TMC Health’s perioperative and surgical services, with accountability for operational excellence, business performance, physician alignment, and sustainable growth.
This role operates in a matrixed leadership model, reporting operationally through the SVP/CNO to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient care delivery, while also reporting through the CEO for business strategy, growth, joint venture oversight, and market competitiveness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Core Accountabilities – Operational Leadership:
• Executive oversight of perioperative operations ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable surgical care
• Optimization of OR throughput, block utilization, first‑case on‑time starts, turnover time, and schedule accuracy
• Partnership with OR Medical Director on surgeon engagement, block governance, and peer accountability
• Collaboration with Anesthesia AVP on staffing models and perioperative flow
• Advancement of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles
Business Strategy & Growth
• Executive leadership for surgical services business strategy and growth planning
• Oversight of ASC and joint venture surgical operations
• Partnership with executive leadership on business development and service line expansion
• Translation of operational performance into strategic recommendations
Financial Stewardship
• Accountability for financial performance of surgical services
• Oversight of budgets, productivity benchmarks, premium labor, and supply cost optimization
• Alignment of financial decisions with long‑term growth strategy
Quality, Safety & Regulatory Oversight
• Assurance of regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety compliance
• Oversight of event review, infection prevention collaboration, and survey readiness
• Promotion of a culture of safety and transparency
People & Culture
• Executive leadership for perioperative directors, managers, and educators
• Leadership development, succession planning, and coaching
• Promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration and accountability
Technology & Analytics
• Optimization of perioperative systems, EHR workflows, and analytics
• Use of data to drive strategic and operational decisions
Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Master’s degree required (MBA, MHA, or business‑related degree strongly preferred)
EXPERIENCE:
• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in surgical or complex healthcare operations.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:
• None required.
