SUMMARY:

The Application Training Lead is responsible for providing assistance to clinical departments in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining effective training experiences. The Lead will evaluate application education programs by conducting needs assessments and maintaining metrics for analytics reporting. The Lead will assist and support system implementations by educating other trainers, clinical educators, and analysts. The Lead will provide professional development opportunities by conducting regular training on current adult learning principles. The Lead will be responsible for improving quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes based on best practices and the latest healthcare education research.    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Collaborate closely with – and communicate between – IT leadership and the clinical community to provide effective educational solutions for clinical systems projects and initiatives

Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the usage of clinical information systems

Bring forth innovative educational programs for the improvement of clinical care

Guide the development and implementation of education for clinical information systems

Serve as a resource for clinical educators

Identify the learning and development needs for clinicians and provide appropriate provisions to meet individual and organizational requirements

Conduct learning needs analytics and data mapping

Lead development and maintenance of continuing professional development education

Analyze and interpret training data, including learning needs analysis to determine trends, whilst comparing various options to establish short and long term plans

Implement learning and organizational development strategy in conjunction with other lead and management team members

Pursue professional growth and development to maintain understanding of current learning theories, technical writing skills, informatics training models, and best practices in healthcare education

Manage and optimally leverage the Learning Management System

Observe and coach trainers in the classroom to optimize teaching strategies

Offer direction in curriculum in all phases of learning development (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) as well as course planning, professional development, standardized testing improvement

Evaluate and track progress of department

Hold weekly department planning and status meetings

Ensure new or modified clinical education maintains patient confidentiality and privacy, in accordance with HIPAA and JCAHO

Involved in design, development, and delivery of intuitive, engaging, and impactful new curriculum and training models that will meet the needs of evolving organizational and service delivery changes

Ensure all content produced by the education team adheres to the approved style guide

Present information to individuals or to groups of staff through formal and informal presentations

Raise awareness; offer advice and guidance of all internal and external educational opportunities

Develop fair and equal training opportunities throughout the workforce

Challenge existing practices and promote differing modes of learning Information technology

Prepare and submit reports, within specified timescales, for management

Analyze and produce statistical information as required about training and development, including information required for Board reports and, Executive Team meetings

Ensure all staff receive information relating to training events and opportunities in relation to areas of responsibility

Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and measure curriculum effectiveness

Promotes high performance standards individually and as a team

Seek learning opportunities with stakeholders

Attend strategic educational meetings across TMC campus

Develop and maintain processes and employ a rapid-development approach to instructional design

Act as a role model for the development of good education practices

Demonstrate strong communication and human relationship skills

Provide effective customer service by being courteous, polite and friendly at all times. Acknowledge customers timely in order to determine their need and help the customer resolve the issue or request. Participate in departmental programs that promote and deliver exceptional customer service.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree is required in informatics, healthcare, curriculum design, education or a related field. Master’s degree or equivalent experience in healthcare or adult education highly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of six (6) years training experience in healthcare setting, minimum of six (6) years curriculum design/development experience, and minimum of four (4) years project management related experience.  Four (4) years of clinical experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting performing direct patient care and two (2) years of training clinical staff in a health care environment or equivalent experience in adult education. Two (2) years instructional design experience in technology education. 

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Recommend clinicians, including RN’s, maintain current state licensure. May be required to certify on one or more EPIC applications and maintain certification.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of conceptually and intuitively understanding how people learn.

  • Knowledge of evaluating and implementing hospital-wide informatics systems, including Epic.

  • Knowledge of current IT security standards, applicable privacy laws, TJC, DHS, State & Federal accreditation standards, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of systems analysis, workflow planning, gathering business requirements and transforming them into functional specifications

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning and training methods

  • Broad knowledge of hospital operations and associate technologies

  • Skilled in conducting thorough research, good analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize information from various sources

  • Skilled at persuading and training physicians and staff to adopt new workflows and tools, requiring strong knowledge of change management

  • Ability to effectively communicate both visually and verbally, be a good listener and create measurable objectives, based on the audience’s needs.

  • Ability to select the right instructional multimedia, and write effective copies, texts, audio and video scripts.

  • Ability to be an effectual eLearning project manager, able to develop the right instructional strategy, and the appropriate structure

  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides

  • Strong ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non-technical audiences
