Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Experienced Physician Assistant

We are seeking a motivated and clinically strong Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or experienced Physician Assistant to join a vascular surgery team in an inpatient-only role. This APP will support a group of five vascular surgeons, providing care to hospitalized patients before and after vascular surgery procedures, evaluating inpatient medical and vascular consults, expediting discharges, and coordinating with the clinic to schedule follow-up appointments.

This position is ideal for an APP who enjoys working in a high-acuity surgical environment and collaborating closely with surgeons, nurses, case management, and other members of the inpatient care team. The role is comparable in structure to cardiothoracic surgery APP coverage, with a focus on vascular patients across the perioperative continuum.

Position Highlights:

• Inpatient-only vascular surgery APP role

• Open to Acute Care Nurse Practitioners and experienced Physician Assistants

• Support five vascular surgeons, though not all simultaneously

• Evaluate inpatient medical and vascular consults before or after surgical intervention

• Help expedite discharges and coordinate with the clinic to schedule follow-up appointments

• Monday through Friday schedule with 8-hour shifts and no call

• Collaborate with surgeons and multidisciplinary hospital teams

The ideal candidate will have inpatient surgical, vascular, cardiothoracic, critical care, or acute care experience and be comfortable managing consults, rounding on hospitalized patients, and communicating effectively with attending surgeons. Physician Assistant candidates should bring prior relevant experience, as this role may not be appropriate for a new graduate PA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Nursing, completion of an approved nurse practitioner program, or completion of an approved physician assistant program, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:  Internship and three (3) years’ experience required.  Rheumatology (TMC One), open to reviewing new graduate applicants on a case by case basis.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: A current Physician’s Assistant license in state of Arizona and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and DEA certifications required. Dept Specific: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

• Knowledge of physician assistant regulations and practices along with prescribing regulations
• Skill in applying medical care.
• Skill discharge planning or chronic care planning.
• Ability to apply use of Code via CPT and ICD-10.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.
• Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
