The RN Coordinator of Patient Relations advocates and models patient-centered care, ideas, philosophies and practices to ensure patients and their families have a superior patient experience. Works in concert with Nursing, Professional Staff Services, Patient Financial Services, Ancillary Services, Business Intelligence, Quality, and other related areas. 


Exhibits customer service excellence in all patient, family, visitor, and staff interactions.

In concert with Director of Service & Outreach, coordinates interviews, hires, trains, provides continuous feedback and evaluates employee performance, appropriately handles performance issues, and delegates work assignments for the greatest efficiency and match to skill sets.

Coordinates work flow that ensures all patient complaints and grievances are addressed in a timely manner in accordance with CMS guidelines.

Understands and ensures compliance of all regulatory requirements and maintenance of all related files.

Actively resolves problems or conflicts using critical thinking and escalating concerns appropriately.

As appropriate, communicates with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient’s condition treatment and progress, and assists patients and families in their understanding of medical conditions and diagnostic procedures.

Encourages understanding and adherence by both staff and patients to hospital philosophy on patient’s rights and responsibilities

Remains current on best practices that offer process improvements impacting patient satisfaction.

Supports Tucson Medical Center values, vision, and strategic direction of customer service.

Demonstrates and upholds established standards of behavior, safety, and confidentiality, as well as TMCH and department policies and standards.

Adheres to and supports staff in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication. 

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years RN nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting with a background in public relations in a patient advocacy capacity in an interdisciplinary patient care setting.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:  Active unrestricted RN license within the State of Arizona, or NLC.
