The Orthopaedic unit is located on the 4th floor of TMC’s tower.  It is a 40-bed post-surgical inpatient unit. All of the rooms are private rooms with picturesque views. The majority of the patients we care for have elected to have their surgery: hip, knee, shoulder, spine, or ankle. The patients admitted to Ortho post surgically are overall healthy, motivated to recover, and progress rapidly. The average length of stay is two to three days. The patient to nurse ratio is 1:5 on day shift and 1:6 on night shift. We work collaboratively with our Orthopaedic surgeons, hospitalists, case management team, and therapy team to ensure patient safety and satisfaction as well as to enhance the patient experience by placing the patient in the center of our care.

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for direct patient care services on a specific unit under the supervision of an RN or Case Manager. Provides personal care and assists with the implementation of selected portions of a care plan including respiratory services, rehabilitation services, and phlebotomy under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting; or no experience if completed one semester of clinicals in an accredited A.D.N. nursing program or completed two semesters of clinicals in an accredited BSN nursing program.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Must hold and maintain a current Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
