This 23 bed surgical unit consists of Urologic, Bariatric, Colo-Rectal-Enhanced Recovery, and Vascular patients as well as general surgical overflow.  The unit provides both pre-operative and post-operative care.  Patient education is focused on pain management, post hospital care and patient focus to return to their optimal level of functioning.   We have a Bariatric surgical intervention program as well as an enhanced recovery after surgery program with Colo-Rectal Physicians (all staff must be specially trained prior to caring for these patients).  Nurse ratio is 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights.

The Manager Patient Care Services manages a nursing unit or nursing specialty function such as Bed Control, Infection Control, or GI Lab.

Infection Control: Manages and monitors the Infection Control Program in accordance with Infection Control regulations and plan. Oversees adherence to standards of practice, protocols, and procedures, maintenance of and coordination of services with other units and agencies related to Infection Control. Advises leadership by interpreting changes in county, state or federal regulations relating to Infection Control requirements. 

Bed Control: Manages the daily operations of the Bed Control Unit. Collaborates with all patient care units to design and implement processes for enhancing throughput for the admission process. Designs processes for applying and documenting criteria based admission reviews using InterQual, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for medical necessity, and in order to admit patients to the correct status and level of care. Interfaces with physicians to provide information and ensure excellent customer service. Educates and coaches Bed Control staff in department processes and all related regulatory requirements, communicates processes to other departments that interface with Bed Control. Trouble shoots problems, collects and interprets data, and monitors outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of relevant nursing experience with mastery of RN role and competencies for assigned area, evidence of leadership, teaching and interpersonal skills, and documentation of professional development.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current RN licensure permitting work in the state of Arizona.
